genius! speck products are terrible, glad to see the quality of incase moving into the hardshell field. we are all waiting for those mbp ones to be released. we’ve all asked nicely, and seeing as it is nearly the end of may, we would love a reply. when can we see them, hold them, entrust our mbps to them? please answer!

  16. HI! Please advice us a tentative date of when will MBP 15 & 17 inch Incase Hardshell be available. Thanks

  17. The pink one is cute, but is there any way you guys can make this case is Green. I already have the purple one and I LOVE IT. I would REALLY love a green one though!

  18. Can you post pictures of the cases on a black MacBook? How do the colors look on black vs white? It seems that the frosted will help show the color (pink, purple) better than your competitors see through versions, but I would like to see proof before buying one for my black MacBook. Thanks!

  19. its almost the end of may. where is the hardshell for the mbp?

its almost the end of may. where is the hardshell for the mbp?

I agree, it IS THE END OF MAY! They were originally supposed to be ready in March. I e-mailed earlier this week and received to response.

  21. Hang in there guys, few more days. Sorry about the delay.

  22. 1 more day left in May and – what a surprise?! – no MBP hardshell case. What is going on? I appreciate the random updates, but I’d rather get the right information than wrong updates from “flapple”. I appreciate the response, but someone from Incase really needs to get their act together, take notice of the demand for their product, respect the consumer (willing to pay $50 for a computer condom) and allow us the privilege of obtaining the right information. Have you not learned that the best way of advertising is through word-of-mouth? If people are on your site, they’re interested and they should be valued. Please allow us some correct information without the typical PR ambiguous response. First, it was March, now it’s the end of May…

  23. I’m another disappointed customer. I really liked the hardshell case when I first saw it at the Glendale Apple store and have been patiently waiting for one that fits my 15″ MBP.

The only thing more disappointing than the delays has been incase’s customer service. Three e-mails and I have never received a reply to a single e-mail. And I don’t think I am alone….

today IS the end of may. any company would kill for this kind of anticipation and blind loyalty to their product, that we’re all holding our breath for a *computer case*. Incase, please get your act together and release the MBP case. at the very least, keep this audience engaged by providing *official* and *accurate* updates. front page maybe? it’s clear that the focus is on the MBP case now. even if there isn’t a sure date yet, at least ensure your market stays well-informed.
thanks, and i hope my next comment on your site will be about how much the MBP hardshell rocks!!!

  25. Its people like you that have made every movie related video game suck. Please give flapple and the people of incase a break. Last time I checked, this isn’t a matter of life and death. I’m sure they would have liked to have gotten them out on time, but at the end of the day I respect a company much more if they choose to take their time to get things right. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d much rather have a brilliant product that comes out late than a terrible product that comes out on time.

  26. Joe,
I have no idea what you’re talking about. I have a right to be annoyed by the inconsistencies shown by Incase. I want the product to be of the utmost quality, as well, but I don’t see how delays since an original reported launch date for the MBP hardshell of March has anything to do with that.
I know Incase employees are busy – like all of us – and I appreciate the small (teeny-weeny) responses we’re getting from “flapple”, whom I assume works for Incase, but I’d would like to hear more communication and more consistency from Incase in the info they’re providing. That’s it. I know delays exist for a reason, but I’m tiring of getting my hopes up for a product that is again delayed.
Thanks for the great products. I wish I could find an equal replacement, but alas, you’ve got me addicted like crack rock.

“Its people like you that have made every movie related video game suck.”

This statement is lost on me. Care to elaborate?

  28. In response to Cariltoes: Most modern blockbusters have video game tie-ins that come out on opening day. For example, Enter the Matrix, Spiderman 3, Iron Man, King Kong, and various Lord of the Rings titles to name a few. The biggest criticism of these games is that their production schedule is so compressed, the final product is rushed out to make the release date and as a result is not worth the DVD they’re burned on.
In response to Derek: You have every right to be annoyed, but you went much farther than that. I was just responding to some of your complaints, particularly about how incase doesn’t “respect the consumer” or that Incase doesn’t “take notice of the demand for their product”. I disagree with you because it seems to me that Incase is doing exactly those things by delaying the product so that they can get it right. Incase has full knowledge how important this product is, or else they wouldn’t send review samples to iLounge, MacLife or NOTCOT, three very influential Mac and Design websites. (FYI, all three reviews were posted in March) Two of those reviews, MacLife and NOTCOT, pointed out some design issues. MacLife could not get their display to open farther than 90 degrees with the case on, and NOTCOT noted some overheating issues. I don’t know the details of this delay, but I would hope they are related to fixing these problems. I don’t know about you, but I would want these issues ironed out before release, and I would think everybody else would want that too. Flapple and Incase don’t have to volunteer this release date information, they do it as a service to you, so that you don’t buy that Speck case and find out the next day that Incase just released a superior product. Just sit tight, you’ll be able to buy it soon enough.

  29. Hi Flapple,

Kindly email me at ftilos@yahoo.com once the MBP 17 hardshell is available in apple store or other computer store. I’m willing to wait vs specks. Cheers.

Joe, actually I’m aware of how videogames tied to movies are rushed to production to coincide with the release. What was lost on me was how that situation applies to this Incase MBP hardshell debacle. At any rate, thanks for the clarification, I think I now understand what you mean.

Let’s not make this into an argument. We all want the same case, it’s just a matter of how Incase goes about keeping their customers in the loop.

At the end of the time, it is still just a computer case, and there are options out there (albeit none as nice as Incase’s), so let’s all just patiently wait.

  31. Saw 1 MBP 15.4 inch Incase “Black” Hardshell in Ebay up for bids. Unfortunately mine is 17.

  32. “a few more days” = 5 ? i thought “a few” = 3, but i guess not…

  33. Maybe they are delaying until WWDC?

Sure would be nice if someone from incase posted updated information.

  34. Carlitoes says:
    Jun 05, 2008 at 10:13 pm

one guy is indeed auctioning off a 15″ MBP hardshell on ebay, but price is $42. He says it was given to him as a preview, so I didn’t go for it since I’m guessing the delay is due to Incase finetuning their product. Might as well wait for when they release the real thing, Incase said end of may.
    *looks at calendar*
    Oh, wait a minute….

  35. I come and check the website everyday now just to see if there are any further news on the product. Its quite disappointing that Incase just comes and tells you the product is delayed and then runs off and leaves us without any further information. It would be nice to at least tell us something, ANYTHING of the delay.

  36. You guys should go and check your Apple stores… The one in Pentagon City Mall in DC had the MBP 15in cases, white, black, and purple. I personally got the Black version, and think its very slick looking. The only problem I have with the case overall is that there is a mold line right in the front of the bottom portion of the case, very noticeable on black plastic, besides that it’s a nice case so far.

  37. Yeah! Apple store at the Glendale Galleria has black 15″ shells in stock!

  38. My black case looks a little purple.

incase didn’t address the issues mentioned in the early reviews. The display only goes back a little past 90 degrees and the bottom vent holes look the same. I’m not sure about the overhaeting issue, but I wish the lid issue could have been fixed.

Whatever caused the long delay, it wasn’t due to ironing out design issues. They are selling the same product that has been reviewed in the previously mentioned early reviews.

Regardless, incase needs to improve its customer service.

  39. Something is up with the black color..looks like plum (just like the one in the NOTCOT preivew) under incandescent light and black under flourescent light. i’m going back to the Apple store to check that I actually got a black one.

  40. Carlitoes says:
    Jun 07, 2008 at 2:36 pm

agree on the black case looking like purple, i thought i was going crazy. one way to check is the barcode on the box, it’ll say something like BLK to indicate black. mine does, but i’m not convinced it’s totally black.

do you think i can dremel off some bits at the bottom to allow full tiltback on the display?

  41. I’m sure that I did get a black one (based on the UPC, Apple’s Inventory #, and the description on the box) now. I wonder if the black hardshell for the macbook also appears purple under yellow light.

The screen seems to be leaning back further than I thought it was able to go yesterday. I don’t want to put too much stress on the hinge, so I am afraid to push it too far back.

  42. I just picked up a black one for my 15″ MBP from the Apple store in Victoria Gardens (Socal). Fit of the holes is spot on, I haven’t noticed much of a difference in how fall the screen goes back.

I know what you mean about the slight purple tint to it though. I only really notice when I look at it from certain angles in bright light. Doesn’t really bother me though.

  43. Guys, Did you see any Incase Hardshell for MBP 17? Can’t find any in LA. Thanks

  44. Interesting. Thanks to everybody who are posting their initial experiences. Unfortunately, because the hinge angle problem has not been taken care of, I’m going to have to agree with Derek on this one and refrain from giving Incase the benefit of the doubt from now on. Anyway, I wanted to get some idea whats keeping the hinge from going past 90 degrees. Is it the overlap of the top and bottom pieces at the hinge? Is the material just too thick? I was going to pick one up at some point, but I want to have some idea of what kind of modification might be needed to get it to work.

  45. why are you guys obsessing over a piece of plastic to put on your computer? it’s not that big of a deal. there are more worthwhile things to spend this kind of time and effort on. just a thought…

  46. Yo Jason – Thanks for the quick reality check. It is a lil funny to see everyone going nuts over the HardShell Case for the MBP. I too got a lil bit hyped over this case but got even more hyped after realizing that this prod is not currently available. My gf turned me on to Incase after she purchased a HardShell case for her macbook. I was completely surprised that she got such a cool case and I knew I had to have one for my MBP.

After looking at the site I was scratching my head trying to figure out why the hell are the HardShells only available for the macbooks. My clever girl ended up stumbling onto this post and gave me the word. So in short….people always tend to go a lil nuts over what they cant have!

I NEEED THIS LIL RUBBER CASE FOR MY MBP NOW!

  47. Oh and I forgot to say that the Apple store in Lyndhurst, Ohio only had the HardShell for the MacBook only…..

LOL @ Nixusr…..yeah when the incase hardshell was nowhere to be found i was like “I WANT IT NOW!!!!” now that i have it, i’m like “eh.”

  49. Jason,
Agreed, there are more things to worry about in this world: rising gas prices, war in Iraq, flooding in IN, cleanup efforts in China from the ‘quake, etc. However, I’m on this site because I care about my $3000 MBP and want to keep it as nice and pristine as possible. So, when I see something innovative and sleek that could help me protect my investment, I jump at it. I just find it appalling that Incase spends so much time and money on developing their products and site, yet they don’t have an intern that has enough info from the inside to let someone know accurate information about the MBP hardshell case. Running tally: first the release date was March, then “end of May”, and on 5/30/2008, flapple stated that it’d be “just a few more days…hang in there”. It has been 11 days since and no more word on the product’s launch. I’m almost laughing that they don’t have any PR people handling this, but at the same time, I respect a company that doesn’t have an PR people in the first place. That is assuming that they don’t considering how quiet the Incase camp as been on such a popular product of theirs. Until then, I’ll continue being patient, but as the days linger on, the more I’m reserved to just being more careful and not relying on a $50 computer condom.

  50. just got the black mbp case at the grove in los angeles. just a heads up to people in la.

  51. Derek,
I can’t agree with you more! There is waay too much going on around us to be in such an uproar about these cases. I’m in the same boat with you on wanting to protect my investment with a product that not only looks great but has a great fit and work. I found available shells form other companies to be clunky and often made of plastic which I have often questioned if they would be prone to crack.

It is amazing that Incase is soo quiet and there are no comments from them about the MBP cases at all. Maybe they figure they would just feature the item in their print catalog and watch the mases go wild. I wonder if they even know about the responses on this post. I email them several times before I found this post to see what was up with the case but no response. Since the world is crumbling around us I guess I will just sit tight and be patient.

I should not be worrying about a $50 case when $50 BARELY fills my gas tank…and no I don’t drive a blasted SUV.

LOL Derek said > “$50 computer condom” …..doesn’t get better than that.

picked up a black 15″ mbp case yesterday in hartford, ct. 90 degree thing is annoying at first, but i’ll live. otherwise, i’m very impressed with the case. the feel is awesome, and the case is super sturdy. also, didn’t notice any ‘plum’ tint on mine. looks very sharp, already received comments on it. enjoy all

Hi all. I bought the 15″ MacBook Pro Hard Shell Case in Frost, from Tysons Corner in McLean, Virginia, and I agree with the above person. There is not a proper cut-out for the Kensington lock, at least not on the case that I have. I don’t currently use the Kensington lock, but I had been planning on doing so in the future, so I’m rather disappointed by this. Don’t know if this is the reason for the delay of the release of the MacBook Pro Hard Shell Cases online (i.e. design flaw).

  55. Anyone checked/saw 17″ Incase Hardshell during your purchased of MBP 15 hardshell? I still cant find the 17″. Please post the store if you saw a MBP 17″ hardshell.

    Thanks

  56. Valentin says:
    Jun 13, 2008 at 4:47 pm

I guess I should have mentioned that I have an older MacBook Pro; the images available on the Incase website of the MacBook Pro cases seem to indicate that the cutout for the Kensington ComboSaver should align properly. But alas, it doesn’t for my older MacBook Pro. Just a warning for those out there with older versions.

  57. Kind of disappointed – no pink MBP hardcase! Still hopeful…

  58. fyi, there is lots of inventory at the apple store at southpoint mall in durham, north carolina.

  59. when will this pink case be available again ?
