Introducing José Parlá for Curated by Arkitip

 title=

The eighth installment of Curated by Arkitip features original artwork by José Parlá, an artist who records his experiences in calligraphic and palimpsestic code. Serving as a collection of textually chronicled memories, the markings appear on backdrops that resemble the distressed surfaces he encounters. As a storyteller, Parlá presents an enigmatic narrative, translating moments that only a visual dialogue can convey.

Featuring three distinct pieces of Parlá artwork, the José Parlá for Curated by Arktitip capsule collection of Apple accessories will be available on November 16.

In the words of bassist/vocalist Jonny Bell, “It was mid-summer last year when Crystal Antlers were floating around in a pool and decided to move to Mexico to write our next record. Several months later, after completing our sixth tour in a row, we moved into a barn in a small farming town 100 miles south of the US-Mexico border. This is some of the music that we emerged with from that experience.”

Room 205’s Second Exclusive Crystal Antlers Performance

This week on Room 205 Crystal Antlers performs “Knee Deep“, available today for both viewing and audio streaming through Room 205’s virtual home. This is the second in a series of three exclusive performances. The first, a recording of their new song “Summer Solstice“, premiered last week. The third and final performance will air next Monday, November 15th.

Room 205 is a rehearsal space in Downtown Los Angeles that has been converted into an audio recording studio. As a means to foster goodwill between artists, music lovers and Incase, Room 205 will play host to touring and local bands who will each perform three songs and sit for casual interviews. Inside Room 205, visitors are able to watch intimate performances and interviews, stream audio of the tracks and view photos of the sessions in the improvised space filled with recording equipment, sunlight and abundant creativity.

Be sure to visit Room 205 next Monday for a final performance by Crystal Antlers.

Halloween Dreams and Warehouse Screams

 title=

On Saturday, October 30th, Incase and MFG Productions threw a raging haunted house party at the 6th Street Warehouse in terrifying terror-friendly downtown Los Angeles. Darker My Love, Restaurant, and The Warlocks performed on the flat bottom of the warehouse’s mini-ramp while costumed party dudes spazzed on the dance floor and played carnival games to win Incase iPhone 4 cases, backpacks, and messenger bags.

Was it sweaty? Yes, very. Was it dark and spooky? Completely. Was the bathroom the scariest room in the haunted house? Definitely (think SAW IV). Did people have fun? OH SO MUCH FUN. Thanks to Matt and Mahtab at MFG Productions and Dave at the 6th Street Warehouse for throwing the party, it was one for the record (boo!)ks. We’ll see you again next Halloween. Enjoy the photos.

Fake Love by Aaron Rose

Fake Love is the second in a series of three short films by Aaron Rose shot in the Echo Park and Silverlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles using his iPhone 4. The film is Rose’s tribute to teen soap operas, a genre he finds both mystifying and exciting; he feels that American television “is the new avant-garde cinema.”

The story follows a gang of girls, one of whom believes that “fake love” is more exciting than true love. Instead of actors, Rose compiled a group of musicians, poets, writers, photographers and artists that hang out at the notorious all-ages club The Smell in Los Angeles. According to Rose, “They didn’t really have to act because they are such amazing personalities.”

Introducing Fake Love, a Film Inspired by Teen Soap Operas

Following the release of Kreuzberg, a documentary of the Berlin neighborhood as seen through the eyes of Aaron Rose, we bring you Fake Love. For his second film, Rose employed complete creative freedom to experiment with the high-definition camera on his iPhone 4 to create a teen soap opera.

Filmed in the Echo Park and Silverlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles, Fake Love follows a gang of girls, one whom believes that “fake love” is more exciting than true love. Choosing to feature real people that he felt could best orchestrate a scenario that speaks to the youth of today, Rose called upon a cast of friends comprised of musicians, poets, writers, photographers and artists living in Los Angeles. According to Rose, “They didn’t really have to act because they are such amazing personalities.” Truly a tribute to teen soap operas, a genre he finds both mystifying and exciting, Rose believes that American television “is the new avant-garde cinema.”

Rose incorporated the use of a tripod for more controlled filming; he affixed an Incase Slider Case to the tripod with a “T” bracket. To assist in capturing the dramatic feel of a soap opera, Rose also filmed with a Zacuto Z-grip and Spider Dolly.

The three-part series by Rose showcases the way his creative mind harnesses the capabilities of iPhone 4 to create an inspired visual experience that engages viewers. Be sure to bookmark the Aaron Rose page; following Kreuzberg and Fake Love, a final film and photo essay by Rose will close the series on November 30.
