Help Us Help Terri & Gary Help You
Last Friday night, after a whole lotta word of mouth mystery and viral video hype, Terri & Gary Burbank (a/k/a artists Sage Vaughn and Anthony Anzalone) opened their ‘A Depiction of Love and Reality’ exhibit at THIS Los Angeles.
With tongues planted firmly in one another’s cheeks (ahem), T&G treated patrons to an array of suggestive mixed media collages, “passive-aggressive weapons” (a/k/a iron-spiked baseball bats), and seizure-inducing audio-visual works. However, it was the duo’s installation of color-coded self-help books that really got the capacity crowd’s baggage brains buzzing, (everyone was encouraged to take the title that “spoke” to him or her most).
Was it a good time? Was it hilarious and entirely baffling? Yes, yes, and yes… pretty much to the max.
For the event THIS x Incase x Terri & Gary created 100 limited edition opening night tote bags. We’ll be giving away five to the first five people who can successfully name Anthony Anzalone’s teenage punk band.
Good luck! (Make sure to fill out your email address so we can contact you if you won!)
WOW! That was fast! The correct answer was “The Mean Reds”. Congrats Priscilla, Baptiste, Sam, Joshua and b0b. You guys won the Terri & Gary Tote bag! We’ll email you for your address.
Stay tuned to our FaceBook page. We will be doing more giveaways soon!
Terry & Gary Will Blow Your Mind
On Friday, April 22nd, THIS Los Angeles embarks on the opening reception for Terry & Gary Burbank: A Depiction of Love and Reality. For those of you not familiar with the vaunted works of T&G, the art world’s (self-described) foremost power duo, we can only say this: Arrive ready to enter a world of deep weirdness.

For the occasion Incase x THIS x Terry & Gary have created 100 limited-edition cotton canvas tote bags to commemorate the night. Come early to grab a tote, stay late to have your mind wrecked. This one’s guaranteed to be entertaining, thought provoking and decidedly funny. The reception is free and features an open bar, 7-10PM. For additional details please read THIS gallery’s press release below and visit the Facebook invite. Trust us, it’s well worth the read.
Terri & Gary Burbank
A Depiction Of Love And Reality
What’s the future about? Acclaimed experts Terri and Gary know!
As you know, Terri & Gary have been doing a lot lately. You may have heard of their latest fantastic game-changing business consultation advice tapes, or maybe you caught wind of their incredible spiritual celebrity consultations on the news. Either way, you’re probably asking yourself: How can I get some of that? Easy….Go to their ground-breaking art exhibition at THIS Los Angeles.
The focus of their inaugural art opening, A DEPICTION OF LOVE AND REALITY, is two fold: Help (mainly concerned with the self) and Love (primarily found through the phone). There is also a touch of the more familiar work of this non-stop power-duo, the ever-present postcard subscriptions and their patented weapons of “passive-aggression”. Manipulating second hand objects of self-improvement and self-gratification, T&G present an innovative way of reinterpreting these narcissistic industries. Working together to create thought provoking installations from the debris of human excess and insecurity, T&G hope to bring you a new and vital experience with your own reality.
Terri & Gary: Helping you re-think the way you thought you think!
Picture Perfect: Donald Weber
In the second episode of Picture Perfect VBS goes on assignment with Canadian photographer Donald Weber to Fukushima, Japan to document the effects of the ongoing nuclear crisis.
Picture Perfect with Donald Weber: Japan in Focus
In our second episode of Picture Perfect, we travel to Tokyo, Japan with Canadian photographer Donald Weber. Weber was born in Toronto, Canada and originally trained as an architect, working with urban theorist Rem Koolhaas’ Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. As a freelance photographer, his work has appeared in international publications including Der Speigel, The Guardian, Newsweek, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and Stern. He has also earned numerous grants and awards such as 2007 Canadian Photojournalist of the Year.
We meet Weber and discuss his ongoing documentation of life in Chernobyl, his interest in power roles and his photographic practice. We then go with Weber inside the buffer zone at Fukushima and follow him as he attempts to document the eerie reality amidst an ongoing nuclear crisis.
The powerful footage and imagery remind us that the displaced victims of the Japan earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster still need our help. To support continuing relief efforts, Incase has committed to raise $10,000 for the Artists Help Japan Movement through the Mercy Corps charity organization.
Help us help others with a $20 donation. As a thank you for your generosity we’ll send you a limited edition Japan Solidarity Case for iPhone 4. 100% of the proceeds will go to help the victims in Japan.

Final performance of Deadelus in Room 205
We’re elated to present the third and final installment of Room 205 with Daedelus, featuring a macabre “Haunted Dub” reworking of the seminal track “Sundown” from the 2006 album Denies The Day’s Demise (Mush Records). Daedelus’ vision for his Room 205 project was to “…perform at a séance in a Victorian parlor… Conjuring the music, so to speak.” Is it spooky? Indeed it is, admirably so.
As an awe-inspiring live performer, gifted producer and in-studio session player, Alfred Darlington shapes the disparate elements of sound with a single-minded vision, chopping and splicing seemingly incongruous acoustic sources into works of staggering resonance. His new album Bespoke, is out now on Ninja Tune worldwide.
THIS Visits: The Impossible Project
10 minutes isn’t enough to scratch the surface of what The Impossible Project is, and what it means to millions of Polaroid enthusiasts. Conceived at the closing party of the last Polaroid factory, The Impossible Project completely re-invented the process of creating instant film specifically for Polaroid cameras. A daunting task for sure, but one that they’ve been at since 2008.
