With almost 30 bands spanning three days… this year’s party is quickly shaping up to be one of the best DIY events of the entire week. Well folks, the annual Chicago music festival Tomorrow Never Knows has once again come and gone. Our friend Rob at Schuba’s sent over images and a short recap of last week’s event:

Now in it’s seventh year, Tomorrow Never Knows is the only event of its kind in Chicago during the bitter month of January, bringing together the best in buzzed about local acts as well as nationally acclaimed indie acts. This year featured the likes of Markéta Irglová, Mister Heavenly, Freddie Gibbs, Twin Shadow and Hansdsome Furs.

By all accounts the festival brought an appreciated reprieve from the snowy weather. Did patrons enjoy their iPhone 4 cases? Oui. Were we happy to lend a hand? Definitely. To Rob and everyone at TNK, thanks again for having us. We’ll see you again next year. Bundle up.

From January 12-16th, Schubas, Lincoln Hall, and the Metro are joining forces to bring you five nights of live music, buzzing ear drums, and tender vibes. Each year since we started in 2005, L.A. RECORD has thrown an Xmas party. Back then it was Daddy Kev and Mike Stock DJ-ing off mismatched turntables balanced on two trash cans in a Hollywood parking lot while Bad Dudes, thee Makeout Party, the much-missed Horses and Darker My Love played in front of a Władysław Starewicz video. We think of these parties as our way of saying ‘thank you’ to everyone who helps and supports us throughout the year. Thanks to the unprecedented generosity and goodwill of not only every person on the flyer above but our writers and artists and photographers and advertisers and volunteers and more, we have now been able to put together by far our biggest event EVER!

On Saturday, December 4th, 1,250 costumed do-gooders descended on Dodger Stadium to take part in the annual city-wide LA Scavenger Hunt. Upon registration each of the 300 teams was given a list of 100 scavenger items and tasks to perform, forty of which raised material goods for the LA Food Bank and Union Rescue Mission, and another 60 of which were purely ridiculous.

In addition to getting the word out on this grass roots charity donation drive, Incase again helped underwrite the scavenger hunt’s production costs and supplied tote bags to the participants and 25 backpacks to the winning teams. In all, the scavenger hunt raised more than $100,000.00 in much-needed material goods in time for the holidays.

To Sean Carlson and Phil Hoelting at FYF Productions, and to all of the scavenger hunt participants—we thank you for time, energy, and enthusiasm on this one. The scavenger hunt is an enormously fun and productive community event. We feel honored to have had a hand in it. We’ll see you again next year.

Puro Instinct performing “Silky Eyes” at Room 205.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the third episode of Room 205 featuring Puro Instinct. Recently off a North American tour with Ariel Pink, the band stopped by Room 205 to perform a few spaced-out jams. “Silky Eyes” is available now for both viewing and audio streaming. The second and third performances will air December 13th and 20th respectively.

Q: How does the L.A. Scavenger Hunt actually work?
A: Good question!

All teams meet at Dodger Stadium by 2 pm on Saturday, Dec. 4. A scavenger hunt list with 100 items will be distributed. Each item is worth a certain number of points. The team with the most points wins the grand prize. Forty of the items are material goods that the Union Rescue Mission, L.A. Food Bank and L.A. Burrito Project need.

For example: cans of foods, socks, or dry food like rice and pasta. The other sixty items are what make the Scavenger Hunt so memorable. They won’t be revealed until the day of the event, but you can get an idea of what they might be like from viewing the Scavenger Hunt guide.

Some of the items are ridiculous, but they’re all a lot of fun. Teams scatter and scavenge and meet back at Dodger Stadium at 8 pm with all their items. Items and points will be tallied and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 7, on lascavengerhunt.com. The Grand Prize is a trip to Barcelona to attend the Primavera Sound festival in May 2011.
