The Return of These Friends 2

 title=

Today we have a very special announcement to make: It is time again for the annual ‘THESE FRIENDS’ group show at THIS Los Angeles. Last year’s opening drew over 600 people for a celebratory night of good friends, fine art, and hectic street meat. To put it bluntly— it was fun. Really fun. For Friday night’s event we’ve again created 100 limited-edition tote bags, this time featuring the work of artist Ashely Macomber. Arrive early to snag a free one, stay late to have a lovely time. For a bit of additional info here’s THIS Los Angeles co-creator and esteemed photographer Dan Monick with a few choice words:

THIS is glad to announce part 2 of the show we kicked it all off with a year ago, These Friends 2. When the 5 of us first conceived this place we all made a list of friends we would like to show a piece and the list quickly grew to over 100 people. It turned out to be a huge success, more people showed up than we knew what to do with, and good times were had. So, let’s do it again. This Friday, February 4th, 7-10 p.m. at THIS Los Angeles, 5906 N. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90042. The reception is free and features a DJ and an open bar.

Janette, it was a pleasure…

 title=

Janette Beckman lit up the room last night as friends and fans from Los Angeles came out to Project Space to celebrate her show, Archive of Attitude. Despite the name, the only attitude to be found was in the photographs themselves, as Janette radiated nothing but charm and style.

The crowd included more than a few of the usual suspects, but overall, it was a more mature audience, since most hipsters were not yet born when most of these photos were taken. The attendees shared a common love of the punk era and classic hip-hop music with people taking turns posing with an oversized photo of Slick Rick and reminiscing of days gone by. A highlight for many was the appearance by Christopher “Kid” Reid of Kid ‘n Play.

This must-see exhibit will run through September 5th, so be sure to stop by Project Space to see it for yourself.

Yes, Yes, Yes. Works of Art by Parra

 title=

We are proud to announce our first exhibition at Project Space with Parra.

32-year-old Dutch illustrator and designer Parra has decorated the Amsterdam underground with his playful, bizarre graphics that span a broad base of themes, from introspective to audacious and bawdy. The mostly self-taught artist seems to channel a vintage form with curves, yet with a decidedly modern, post-pop approach.

Parra’s vibrant and often humorous images feature a distinctive, hand-drawn feel, and can be seen printed on various exhibitions around the globe—club flyers, record sleeves and billboards—as well as silk screened on tees and sweaters. His work can also be found in the second installment of Curated by Arkitip, adorning the Incase signature MacBook Sleeve and iPhone Slider Case.

Parra’s characteristic style has also extended into his music career with electro-rock group Le Le. Their most popular track “Breakfast” features Parra’s typography and imagery set in motion to the song’s pulsating beats and comical (and slightly naughty) lyrics.
