This past Friday THIS los angeles and Incase hosted the opening night for the new exhibition “TURBO LOVER” from artist and musician Thom Lessner.

For the occasion we worked with Lessner and gallery co-owner Justin Van Hoy to create 100 limited-edition, custom cut & colored totes. The 80s hesher-inspired black skulls on a blood-red bag might be the scariest/funniest/most ridiculous tote we’ve ever made.

Thanks again to everyone who came out to the opening. Extra special thanks to THIS Los Angeles and Thom Lessner. By the way, Glen Danzig spotting his band mates in the weight room was our favorite work of the show. It must be seen in person to be properly appreciated. This past Friday THIS los angeles and Incase hosted the opening night for the new co-exhibition “Gold Coast” from artists Danny Gibson and Mike Bertino.

For the occasion we worked with Gibson, Bertino and the THIS gallery to create 100 limited-edition, custom cut & colored totes. The yellow print motif on orange canvas might very well be the best looking bag we’ve done yet. Good job Justin Van Hoy!

Way, way back on Friday, June 15th, THIS los angeles hosted the opening night for Stalker, the new solo exhibit from artist Lisa Solberg. For the occasion we worked with Solberg and THIS gallery co-owner Justin Van Hoy to create 100 limited-edition, custom cut & colored blood red totes, (a fitting accompaniment to the silver mind jail Solberg painstakingly crafted for the show).

Delighted to say all 100 totes were swooped with a quickness. Thanks again to everyone who came out on opening night, Solberg’s art offers a true brain cave. Special thanks to THIS los angeles, Aaron Farley, Justin Van Hoy and Claire & Jeremy Weiss for making the show possible.

This Friday night, August 12th, our friends at THIS los angeles will curate their first remote event at the new ACE Hotel gallery space in New York City. To commemorate this auspicious occasion we’ve created 100 limited-edition cotton canvas totes. First come, first served. Arrive early to grab a snazzy bag, stay late and maybe bag a fancy babe. Whooooaaaa! Here’s THIS los angeles co-curator Justin Van Hoy with a few choice words about the event:

“THIS los angeles presents it’s first out-of-Los Angeles gallery experience at The ACE New York. We normally don’t like to leave our little neck of the woods in LA, but The ACE is worthy of the trip. 25 of our favorite creative friends will be exhibited until the end of the month at the hotel”.

On Friday, June 3rd, THIS Los Angeles hosted the opening night event for exhibiting artist Andrew Jeffry Wright. Blurring the line between poignant cultural satire and personal inside jokes, the show offered a keen, colorful insight into the kaleidoscopic mind of Mr. Wright.

For the event Incase collaborated with the gallery and Wright to create 100 limited-edition cotton canvas totes depicting everyone’s favorite blarf cats, (you’ll know what we mean when you view the Flickr set). Thanks again to Andrew Jeffry Wright and everyone who came out, it was an excellent first opening of the summer season.

On Friday, June 3rd, we’re excited to present the opening night reception for artist Andrew Jeffrey Wright’s new solo exhibit at THIS los angeles. For this very special occasion we’ve worked with THIS and AJW to create 100 limited edition hand-printed all cotton totes. Come early to grab a bag, stay late to stare at the walls and have a laugh. Wright’s multi-disciplinary approach to art making guarantees this to be an entertaining, thought provoking hang. Here’s THIS la’s Justin Van Hoy with a bit more info on the artist and his work:

“Andrew Jeffrey Wright is a current and founding member of Philadelphia’s Space 1026 art collective. He has a BFA in Animation. The collaborative animation “the Manipulators”, which he made with Clare E. Rojas, has won the top prize for animation at the New York Underground Film Festival and the New York Comedy Film Festival. His works include painting, animation, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, video, installation, screen printing and performance. He has shown at Lamp Harajuku (Tokyo), New Image Art (LA), The Luggage Store (San Francisco), The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia), ICA (Philadelphia), The Print Center (Philadelphia), Giant Robot NY (NYC), Cinders Gallery (Brooklyn), The Corcoran (DC) and Foundation Cartier (Paris). Wright’s art has been featured in books published by Chronicle, Gingko, Picturebox Inc., Abrams Image and Buenaventura Press. Wright has performed with Rose Luardo as The New Dreamz in many venues including The NY Art Book Fair at PS1 MOMA and has opened up for Fred Armisen.”

Last Friday, in effort to get in on last week’s end of the world hubbub, the cheeky folks over at THIS los angeles threw a one night only exhibit dubbed ‘Judgement Night.’ Despite the soiled ski masks, scary handmade weapons, and all manner of chaotic doomsday imagery lining the gallery walls, all in all it was a relatively peaceful hang with mellow pals. On Friday, February 4th, THIS Los Angeles celebrated its one-year anniversary with an opening night party for the 2nd annual ‘THESE FRIENDS’ group show. Featuring the works of more than 113 contributing artists, the show brought together roughly 600 friends, fans and art aficionados for a night of shoulder-to-shoulder gawking, slippery BBQ, Phucket beer, sketchy tunes, and weirdly delicious Box Water. From beginning to end, the gallery was packed with more laughter, disbelief, and overcrowded chaos that you can rightly imagine. Was it a good time? For the event we again made 100 limited edition tote bags, (five of which we’re giving away via this here events blog today). The totes will go to the first five people to correctly spell the slang name of the decade we’re currently living in. Hint. Leave a comment on this blog post to enter.
