Nothing can compare to New York in the springtime. As soon as the warm weather hits, New Yorkers come out of hibernation filling the city streets, skin exposed, congregating with friends and enjoying what their grand city has to offer.

This weekend presented us with the opportunity to attend May Day, an exhibition of new work by Shepard Fairey at Deitch Projects. For those of you who do not know, this will be Deitch Project’s last show.

And then again on opening day—we waited in line with the masses (for an hour and a half), to experience the excitement and crowd anticipation firsthand. We highly recommend you stop by to see for yourself.

<img src="http://goincase.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/mayday-wall.jpg" alt=" title="May Day Wall" width="600" height="380" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2727" />

According to Deitch Projects

With energy and urgency befitting the title May Day, Fairey captures the radical spirit of each of his subjects, using portraiture to celebrate some of the artists, musicians and political activists he most admires. Says Fairey, “These people I’m portraying were all revolutionary, in one sense or another. They started out on the margins of culture and ended up changing the mainstream. When we celebrate big steps that were made in the past, it reminds us that big steps can be made in the future.”

Many of the steps Fairey refers to involve the advocacy of the working class, put forth in the songs of Joe Strummer and Woody Guthrie and the writings of Cornel West, and among the works of other heroes portrayed in May Day. International Worker’s Day celebrated in nearly 100 countries throughout the world, commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago when a peaceful rally supporting workers on strike was disrupted by a bomb, and then a barrage of police gunfire. Because of negative sentiment surrounding the incident, U.S. President Grover Cleveland decided it was best to avoid celebrating the day, but it is precisely such sentiment that Fairey believes must be voiced: “It’s a day to express frustration with the powers that be, but also a day for activists to pursue ideals.” In May Day, he does both, with images supporting free speech and bemoaning the U.S. two party political system, pushing for renewable energy and critiquing corporate propaganda.

In Fairey’s mind, the persistence of difficulties across all of these arenas— political, environmental, economic, cultural— points to that third meaning of May Day: a distress signal. “By now we thought we would be in post-Bush utopia, but we’re still having to call attention to these problems,” he remarks. Like any mayday call, however, the sounding of the alarm also brings hope for help on the way. “If we stay silent, there’ is no hope,” Fairey muses. “But if we make noise, if we put our ideas out there, then maybe we can make a change like the people in the portraits have done.”

Highly Limited-edition CSC Soccer Bag Available Now

<img src="http://goincase.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/csc-bag-profiles.jpg" alt=" title="CSC Bag" width="600" height="380" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2667" />

Through common friends, shared interests and a mutual respect for each others’ brands and beliefs, we have joined forces with the Chinatown Soccer Club to create the Incase | CSC Soccer Bag, available today in highly-limited edition. Designed to meet the group’s very particular needs–on the pitch, in the office and all points in between–the Incase | CSC Soccer Bag marries our signature industrial design aesthetic and device-driven functionality with ergonomic features and soccer-specific storage all in a durable, lightweight design.

Founded in 2002, the Chinatown Soccer Club is a diverse collective of artists, photographers, designers, writers, skateboarders and like-minded creative individuals that converges on New York City’s Chinatown in all weather and seasons for friendly morning matches before heading to work.

“Since we play year-round, we needed a bag that was durable and roomy enough for soccer gear as well as the essentials for those heading to work straight after our early morning games,” said Gerhard Stochl, founding member and coach of the Chinatown Soccer Club. “So many of us already use Incase products; it was clear that the Incase team understood our alternative view of the game. One of our designers, Justin Fines, lead the way on our side, working closely with Incase’s Tim Wall at all stages of development. We took our time to create a bag that would work for our specific environment and needs, going back and forth even about the smallest details. The bag is truly a representation of both CSC and Incase.”

<img src="http://goincase.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/csc-bag-inside.jpg" alt=" title="CSC Bag Inside" width="600" height="380" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2666" />

The Incase | CSC Soccer Bag is a manifestation of the team’s creative professions and recreational passion for soccer. Combining the essential functions of a sport duffel bag with the best protective elements of an Incase backpack, the Incase | CSC Soccer Bag is a versatile, all-weather bag with exceptional functionality. The Incase | CSC Soccer Bag features durable and lightweight sailcloth construction for strength and tear resistance. A weatherproof padded notebook sleeve keeps essential technology guarded, while a removable shoe bag and waterproof soccer ball compartment secure game essentials. For easy transport, especially for those who commute via bike, the Incase | CSC Soccer Bag features padded shoulder straps and back panel for increased comfort and ergonomic support.

<img src="http://goincase.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/csc-bags-kicks.jpg" alt=" title="CSC Bag Kicks and MacBook" width="600" height="380" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2668" />

“Incase is thrilled to align with the CSC to bring to life such a pioneering product,” said Damon Way, Incase Chief Brand Officer. “It is inspiring to work with such a unique group of creatives who are just as dedicated to a sport as they are to their professions.”

<img src="http://goincase.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/csc-team.jpg" alt=" title="CSC Team" width="600" height="380" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2669" />

To celebrate the NYC launch of their collaboration, Incase and the CSC have created a Clubhouse located across the street from the club’s home turf in the Lower East Side. Located at 195 Chrystie Street, the CSC’s temporary home will feature artifacts to showcase the club’s history ranging from photography to posters, jerseys and trophies and present the club’s positive interpretation of soccer and soccer culture. The Clubhouse will be open daily from 12-7 p.m. starting April 29 through May 2.

The final installment of our video series finds Telepathe moving from the background to center stage (quite literally). The experimental noise pop group provided the soundtrack for the first two videos in the series, and the third episode features an intimate live performance of the song “Michael” from their album Dance Mother.

The performance is hosted by the same group of friends from the earlier videos, who learn that Incase products offer protection when you least expect to need it.

Concluding our series, here is Experiment No. 3: Telepathe Recording.
