Last Saturday night, Internet-radio station & non-profit creative collective DUBLAB celebrated their 12th anniversary with an explosive multimedia happening at the new Atwater Crossing arts complex in Atwater Village.

In addition to other far-flung entertainments, the night featured a rotation of 33 DJs, (including blazing sets by Daedelus, Teebs, Jonti, Mahssa, and Turquoise Wisdom), live performances from High Places & ESP, silk screening by Hit + Run, rare films from the vast dublab vault, free Incase cases for your iPhone 4s, half a dozen food trucks, magic popcorn, a cozy photo-booth, and six-solid-hours of favorably psychedelic video projections.

Well folks, the annual Chicago music festival Tomorrow Never Knows has once again come and gone. Our friend Rob at Schuba’s sent over images and a short recap of last week’s event:

Now in it’s seventh year, Tomorrow Never Knows is the only event of its kind in Chicago during the bitter month of January, bringing together the best in buzzed about local acts as well as nationally acclaimed indie acts. This year featured the likes of Markéta Irglová, Mister Heavenly, Freddie Gibbs, Twin Shadow and Hansdsome Furs.

By all accounts the festival brought an appreciated reprieve from the snowy weather. Did patrons enjoy their iPhone 4 cases? Oui. Were we happy to lend a hand? Definitely. To Rob and everyone at TNK, thanks again for having us. We’ll see you again next year. Bundle up.

On Saturday, December 18th, the LA Record threw its fifth annual holiday party at Bedrock Rehearsal Studios in Echo Park, CA. How was it? Honestly, a total pile. No really, it was just debauched, sweaty and packed. Precisely the way a good holiday party should be. And, thanks to the non-stop rain raging down on Los Angeles right now, it was damp. The dampest damp. And loud. Very, very loud.

Nonetheless, people had a great time watching the night’s performing artists, sitting on Bad Santa’s damp lap, enjoying onsite taco trucks, and creeping around the studio’s labyrinth of pop up shops, live music rooms, and pinball parlor. As part of our sponsorship of the event we gifted a Santa’s sack-load of Incase products to several performing artists and gave away free cases for the iPhone 4 and 3GS. Stuff that in your stocking!

On Saturday, October 30th, Incase and MFG Productions threw a raging haunted house party at the 6th Street Warehouse in terrifying terror-friendly downtown Los Angeles. Darker My Love, Restaurant, and The Warlocks performed on the flat bottom of the warehouse’s mini-ramp while costumed party dudes spazzed on the dance floor and played carnival games to win Incase iPhone 4 cases, backpacks, and messenger bags.

Was it sweaty? Yes, very. Was it dark and spooky? Completely. Was the bathroom the scariest room in the haunted house? Definitely (think SAW IV). Did people have fun? OH SO MUCH FUN. Thanks to Matt and Mahtab at MFG Productions and Dave at the 6th Street Warehouse for throwing the party, it was one for the record (boo!)ks. We’ll see you again next Halloween. Enjoy the photos.

Sad but true, our favorite summer barbecue series will soon come to a close. Fortunately both final events feature back-to-back killer chefs and hilarious, bad ass DJs. If you were on hand for BBQ 5 on Saturday, August 21, you experienced firsthand the mouthwatering Southeast Asian-meets-Southern Dixie kitchen mash-ups of Fatty Cue and the weirding ways of DJs Punches.

Actually, here’s co-mastermind Darin Bresnitz to drop science on how it all went down,

“Saturday was the perfect day of sun, fun and deliciously smoky lamb ribs! Selling its entire cache of food, Fatty ‘Cue blew people away with delectable Asian inspired BBQ, while DJ Whitney Fierce rocked the crowd until the sun went down. With a steady flow of sun burnt, summer loving foodies, Zak Pelaccio, owner of the already legendary ‘cue spot, jumped behind the line to dish out his delicious delicacies. Curry flavored black eyed peas and greens from Brooklyn Grange rounded out the menu for a perfect event that was the talk of the weekend.”

Seriously… delicious.

With only two more events to go (August 21 & 25), we’re getting perilously close to the end of the Finger On The Pulse Summer BBQ Blow Out series. Soon, no more cheap eats, no more sloppy DJ sets, no more free Snap Cases for your iPhone, and no more easy breezy nights of lurking, laughing, and stuffing our faces. So almost sad. The 4th BBQ in our series was set on a perfect summer day: 80 degrees, some clouds and a light breeze. The people turned out strong and waited patiently for the smoked meat burgers and brisket dogs provided by Mile End. MIle End prepared everything fresh that day, baking their own bread and casing the hot dogs themselves. Tunes were provided by the lovely girls of Au Revoir Simone who set a summer soundtrack of old 45s and laid back jams. This was one of the best yet.

If that review feels a little tame, you’re probably right. I know for a fact Greg and his brother Darin were nursing hella strong hang over vibes from party dawging at Pitchfork Festival the week before in Chicago. It happens!

SOOOOOOOOOO friends, if you’re in the Williamsburg area on August 21st, and if you’re

1. hungry for cheap delicious bbq,
2. in need of a free iPhone 3GS case, and
3. looking for a nice mellow midweek lurk, you know where to go.

Just as we suspected Chef Sam Mason didn’t disappoint at BBQ Blow Out #3 on July 3rd in Williamsburg. Here’s Greg Bresnitz of Finger On The Pulse Productions with a recap of the event including some photos:

Sam Mason, host of IFC”s Dinner With The Band, manned the chef station with sous chef/DJ Dom Rocket. The menu consisted of Root Beer Braise Brisket (as featured on the season finale with Andrew WK next week), southern pulled chicken, coriander carrots, potato salad, green beans and fresh peach cobbler. The Williamsburg crowd came strong after the threatening monsoon passed and chowed down. KISSBROOKLYN main man Preston Craig laid out smooth summer jams and late 90s hip hop to a head bobbing crowd. It was a great day and we’re all looking forward to the July 28th party with Mile End Deli and Au Revoir Simone.
