For the video supplement to the latest installment in our Curated by Arkitip series, C. R. Stecyk III took director Felipe Lima on a tour of his favorite decommissioned U.S. highway, Route 66. From beneath the Santa Monica Pier, just blocks from the infamous roadway’s Pacific dead end, they traveled over 200 miles to the Amboy Salt Flats. Along the way, they paid their respects to the local landmarks Stecyk has watched decay over the last forty years. From the McDonald brothers’ first hamburger stand in San Bernadino through the Oz-like ruins of abandoned houses and cars near Baghdad, they traced the skeletal remains of what was once a strong spine of commerce into the Mojave.

The two then visited the Colby Poster Printing Company in downtown Los Angeles. Family owned and operated for three generations, the Stecyks printed with the Colbys before there was a third C. R. They documented the printing process behind a series of posters to commemorate Stecyk’s new Incase products. The posters will be made available exclusively through Incase and Arkitip’s Project Space in Hollywood.

Later, Stecyk penned and spoke a few words about the experience, while David Lantzman and Andrew Miller scored the desert journey.

Incase not only relishes the opportunity to design products with artists like C. R. Stecyk III, but to document that creative process, as well.
