Great Sling Bag with Much Needed Features
POSTED ON 8.27.12 • BY Jay R
After spending quite a bit of time doing some extensive research I decided to pull the trigger on the sling bag. After using it for a couple weeks here are my positive/negative thoughts on a few different categories: (+'s or -'s for positive/negative thoughts):
+ Held all of my gear adequately; (all Canon) 7D gripped w/ 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 10-22 f/2.5-5.6, 24-105 f/4 IS, 50 f/1.4, all lens hoods, BlackRapid strap, filters, cords, remote, LaCie travel drive, memory card, few other accessories, and MacBook Pro Retina. Moving things around i could even hold a second body (without some unnecessary accessories)
- Things were tight, and i mean, quite tight with everything in. To the point where it made me uncomfortable to have my Mac in there with added pressure from being on my back
+ The custom dividers were well thought out and provide a number of options to configure both the 'upper' and 'side' compartments to your liking/size needed
+ This pack is padded. Everywhere. Even the internal accessory pockets have padding for them. Always a welcomed feature when you have expensive gear stored in there
+ The quick release system is fantastic. Something i've never experienced in my other previous sling bags. There is a 'hook' built in to the quick release system that is great for taking up the extra slack when the bag is tightened
+/- The quick access areas are perfect for grabbing gear while on the go. Changing lenses is a different story however. Proved to be difficult especially with the 70-200 (not a good place to store the large lens except for where the camera w/ lens goes. Then when you need to pack it up/put the camera away i would need to switch back to the 70-200 for everything to fit)
+/- Tripod straps are a must have for me and very glad this bag had them. They were a tad tricky to fit tripod through straps quickly, whether it was feet or ball head first
+ While I didn't have a chance to use it, the rain cover is a great safety feature to have for your gear
+ Hip straps were great for heavy loads
- Experienced some discomfort from the shoulder strap after extended periods of time with the bag fully loaded (minus Mac)
Overall impression? I loved the bag. The material looks great and different from every bag out there. HOWEVER, I have decided to return the bag for three reasons; discomfort after extended periods of use (walking for ~5 hours, even while carrying my tripod in hand and without Mac), how tight everything is when fully loaded, and time consumption in changing lenses. The 70-200 f/4 fits much nicer in this bag when packed out. If you're not using the larger, heavier f/2.8 version of the 70-200 this bag is a no-brainer. Heavier lens users, I'm going to give the backpack a try!
Awesome design, but not for a petite woman.

This bag is pretty awesome, i bought it with the intention of fitting everything I had possible in this bag. With almost no space to spare I could fit:
5d with a battery grip and a 35mm 1.4 attached
7d with a 10-22 3.5 attached
2 canon 580 ex 2
4 extra batteries
5d battery charger
7d batter charger
2 pocket wizards
macbook pro 13inch
After being able to pack all that comfortably, I was pretty pleased with myself! The compartments were perfect size, everything was easy to adjust. I loved that there were pockets just about everywhere. The design is very smart and intuitive.
The only sad thing was, as soon as I put it on, it was very obvious it didn't fit me. Even shortening the strap as much as I could, it fit very awkwardly. I am a 5'1 petite woman, and I probably would not be able to carry that bag for more than 5 minutes comfortably. However my husband put it on, and it fit him wonderfully! (5'8)
I do have to say, I love that it has the potential to fit so much, but with everything on there it is pretty darn HEAVY. I couldn't imagine being able to use it full packed for extended periods of times. Over all the design is amazing, and I wanted it so badly to be a good fit, but it just wasn't a good fit for me.
