Out of his many pop art innovations, one of Andy Warhol’s most recognizable is his serial repetition of the same image. His 1962 Handle with Care - Glass - Thank You stands as a clear example of Warhol’s ability to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary by using screen printing to repeat the image on a single canvas. For this piece, Warhol used a common shipping and handling label, something that virtually everyone had seen in their daily lives, but hadn’t given a second thought to.

Warhol later loaned this silkscreen to the noted artist Jasper Johns, who incorporated the image into his Arrive/Depart painting. By freely sharing his own work Warhol further challenged the notions of ownership and authorship, a central concept of Pop Art.
